About Us Charlie & Maureen

Charlie and Maureen Henderson

Charlie

Photography is a fusion of art and science, of technique and beauty, and of light and emotion. I am grateful to call it a career.

My interest in photography was kindled early in life by my Aunt Heidi, who always carried a camera, and always created breathtaking pictures. I did my first wedding as her assistant, and almost ruined the day by loading the 120 film backwards in the camera. I have learned a lot since that day and have long since been forgiven (I think).

Officially, my photography career started over ten years ago with a job processing film in a photo lab. From those humble roots, I went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Niagara County Community College, work as an apprentice photographer for five years with several area studios, and work for six years at Color-Tech Imaging in Amherst.

At Color-Tech I was immersed in everything photography, from developing, printing, and retouching to image compositing and layout. It was also an opportunity to interact with the best portrait and wedding photographers in Western New York, and absorb their repertoire and methods.

In August of 2009, with Matt Russell and Maureen, I opened LakeFX Studio as a part-time venture. Almost three years later, in July 2011, I became a full time wedding and portrait photographer at the studio.

On August, 23rd 2011, I married my wonderful wife Maureen.

My love of photography started very young. As a kid I used my mom’s 110 film camera with a rotating flash bulb to take goofy pictures of my neighborhood friends. Since then I have taken thousands of pictures of my family, friends, special occasions, vacations, and adventures! I love the memories they recall.

In 2002 I earned my MBA from St. Bonaventure University and by day I am a certified New York State small business advisor with the Niagara County Community College Small Business Development Center.

In 2008, when my then boyfriend Charlie opened LakeFX Studio, I was glad to help with the business side of things as well as assisting on weddings and portrait shoots. Over the past four years, after dozens of classes and webinars with world renowned photographers, and hundreds of hours of practice, I have grown from an assistant photographer to being a lead photographer.

When I photograph a subject, whether it’s a couple on their wedding day or a newborn baby, I want it to be a portrait that will last for generations. I think about looking though my grandparent’s old photos and how special those are to me.

My absolute favorite part of being a photographer is sharing it with my wonderful husband, Charlie! Together we make a dynamic photography team. We have complimentary skills sets that allow us to rise above and beyond an average photographic team.

On a chilly night in December of 2007, we met for coffee and fell in love! (well maybe not that night, but soon after) Three and a half years later we were married on Mackinac Island. On our many journeys together we have traveled to the Adirondacks, the Thousand Islands, Colorado, Michigan, Toronto, Ottawa, North America’s largest indoor water park, gone white water rafting, rock climbing, waterfall jumping, ridden countless roller coasters, photographed a double wedding in the Outer Banks, and have watched hundreds of episodes of Jeopardy.
